Saint Demetrios is the patron Saint and protector of the Greek city of Thessaloniki, Dimitrios of Thessaloniki. He was a Christian martyr and is said to have lived in Thessaloniki during the 4th century. He was martyred around the year 306 and his cult grew rapidly in the middle ages. He is one of the most popular Saints in the Orthodox world. His feast day is celebrated on October 26.
